"jar of hearts"

Good evening, readers!

Tonight I bring you "Jar of Hearts" - featuring Amanda and myself. I adore Christina Perri's song - it really hits home for anyone who has been strung around by a significant other.

I hope you enjoy it!

If YOU have any requests for songs you'd like the Lyrical Improv Experiment to use... please feel free to leave the song title & artist in a comment below! :)

earth song.

I don't know about you, but Michael Jackson's "Earth Song" has always been a HUGE inspiration of mine. I adore the way his voice soars over the instrumental track... This is a composition of two videos of myself and two of my advanced Lyrical students (Emily and Amanda) improvising to his wonderful song.

Hope you enjoy it. :)

"airplanes"

This was one of the first days of the experiment. Emily and I are playing around to a cover of "Airplanes" by Travis Garland.

Clearly, at the end you can see where I wasn't expecting Emily to be directly behind me... and I, in turn, begin laughing like a crazed hyena. ;)

But all in all, I think this was a great start to the experiment.

What do you think? :)

-Jennifer.

welcome to the experiment.

I am a dancer by trade. I teach at a performing arts junior/senior high school in the high desert to pay the bills. While I'm there I encourage my students to use dance as therapy, as I do. Thusly, we've started the Lyrical Improv Experiment.

At least once a week, a few of my advanced students and I get together to have an improv session - where we pick songs that suit the emotions in our lives at that particular moment, and improvise in the lyrical dance style to these songs.

Recently, we've been videotaping these experiments so I can show them to my students and we can analyze how to improve their improvisational technique. And I've decided to share them with you, with this blog. :)

I hope you enjoy!
